In this guide, I will show you the best hardware platform for running Windows XP.
Windows XP is an old operating system and is notorious for how easy it is to run on a wide range of hardware. But which one is the best?
There are quite a few options to choose from. You can run Windows XP on as low as a turn of the Millenium Pentium 3 system, all the way up to a 4th gen Core i7 (in some cases).
However, both of the extremes are not ideal. Windows XP on a Pentium 3 will run at a snails pace, and a 4th gen Core i7 will be unstable, with close to no driver support.
But, there is a few options that are ideal. Let's start with the least good option, being a Pentium 4 / Pentium D system. Although these systems were designed with XP in mind, they often are still not powerful enough to play all of the XP era games or run all XP era software. Our next option is better, but still not the best. A first / second gen Core i5 / i7 system. While more than powerful enough, they are more Windows 7 era systems, and also suffer from poor or non-existent drivers. Although you can make them work, they will probably be a bit unstable. Finally, we have the best option, and what my own Windows XP system uses. Of course, it's an LGA 775 system. More specifically, a later Core 2 Duo / Quad / Extreme system. These still have strong official support due to XP remaning the popular option until the start of 2009, meaning all LGA 775 systems should have full Windows XP support.
In conclusion, the best platform for Windows XP, is LGA 775 with a Core 2 Duo or Quad CPU, due to having the best balance of power, driver support, and they're probably the cheapest platform of this list.
Have a nice day!
